HIRE OF THE FESTIVAL HALL

The Festival Hall is technically well-equipped to hold demanding and simple events. The layout of tables, chairs and other performance/event facilities can be adapted to the number of visitors and to the type of the event. It is suitable for smaller groups of up to 100 people, as well as catering for larger events of up to 1,000 people. In the case of a smaller number of visitors, or dividing of the programme into two parts (e.g. a stage programme and a banquet) the hall can be divided into two parts with a red velvet curtain.

THE HISTORY OF THE FESTIVAL HALL
The Festival Hall has been synonymous with social life in Ljubljana for decades. The hall, often referred to as The Plečnik Hall, was designed by the famous architect Jože Plečnik and is definitely the most beautiful dance hall in Slovenia. In its beginning, the building was the theological seminary of Friderik Baraga, designed for seminarists' accommodation, and built between 1936 and 1941. It was constructed on the site of the former St Christoph cemetery. The other half of a circle of this four-storeyed semicircular building, modelled on the Roman Colosseum and the Mausoleum of Hadrian (known as Castel Sant'Angelo), has never been completed, although the architect Plečnik envisaged it as a complete full circle. Hidden from the outside, an interesting open atrium  is in the middle of the present closed semicircular building. The interior of each floor is connected along its full length with a circumferential corridor, leading to individual rooms.

In 1956, the architect Anton Bitenc reshaped the central part of the building for the needs of the Festival Hall. There is a monumental staircase with pillars and ornamental sculptures leading to the hall, which itself, along with the lobby, is adorned with magnificent pillars.

There are few Slovenes who have not attended numerous performances in the Festival Hall. It has hosted many national and foreign dancing events and contests, concerts, congresses, fashion shows, high school and primary school farewell dinner parties, graduation balls, wedding parties and many other events.

Its purpose is also the presentation of a wide scope of children’s and youths’ creative work in Ljubljana and beyond. In cooperation with other related associations and institutions, we design programmes for children, teenagers and adults in the field of dance, music and theatre.
